The small form-factor pluggable (SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable network interface module used for both telecommunication and data communications applications. An SFP interface on networking hardware is a modular slot for a media-specific transceiver in order to connect a fiber-optic cable or sometimes a copper cable. The advantage of using SFPs compared to fixed interfaces (e.g. modular connectors in Ethernet switches) is that individual ports can be equipped with any suitable type of transceiver as needed.
Overview - GM2001GS GPON Sticker/SFP:
GENEW’s high performance GPON Stick GM2001GS is a G.984.2 (GPON) Optical Network Terminal (ONT) with Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) packaging. It integrates a complete GPON ITU-T G.984 MAC and Gigabit Ethernet MAC inside. This allows an operator to insert the SFP ONT into any SFP host and operate a single demarcation device on the customer premise. And, the GM2001GS fits seamlessly into existing communications equipment, providing service providers with a smooth upgrade to GPON.
The GM2001GS provides an asymmetric 1.244Gbps upstream / 2.488Gbps downstream GPON uplink to the CPE without requiring separate power supply. And, it supports a sophisticated ONT management system, including alarms, provisioning, DHCP and IGMP functions for a stand-alone IPTV solution at the ONT.
The GM2001GS series includes digital diagnostic monitoring function fully compliant with SFF-8472.
